Michael Kapoustin, a 55-year-old Canadian citizen, had been wrongfully imprisoned in Bulgaria since 1996. His story begins just after the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe, in Bulgaria, a country known for long standing human rights problems and, law enforcement and judicial system abuses and corruption.

On Shahrukh Khan's detention in US over his ethnicity he writes to Chairman of SAHRA Mr. Roger Nair, who has taken up the issue as a clear Human right violation:
Folowing are the excerpts of his email to Mr. Nair:

The Khan incident is important only as a wake up call sending the following message “tourist of color beware, you ARE next!”

Mr. Khan has celebrety, money and powerful friends to shield him. And yet still had to agonize for 2 very long hours about his fate. What chance does the average indian tourist or businessman have, who will come to his aid?

Each year thousands more tourists join the silent ranks of those terroriized by the racial profiling praticed by the Western immigration and police. And not even a black U.S. president apologizing for the racial profiling and wronglful arrest of Harvard University Prof. Henry Louis Gates Jr can change that.

Its traveler beware, and go prepared for the worst.

To Mr. Khan I say this. Image your 2 hour experience becoming weeks, months and possibly years. You are couragous on screen, can you be as couragious in real life? Saying “I will never go back” is a cop out. Mr. Khan use your celebrity and treasure to engange U.S. and Canadian polticials in a dialougue for eleminating the terrorizing of tourists from India and the subcontinent. Become Indian’s “bono”, stand up and be counted.

Roger, there are many things I would like to say.

But one thing I always say, the majority of men who experience even the shortest period of captivity would rather crawl under a rock and hide than face the systems that oppressed them. There are not many Ghandis or Mendelas, men merge from captivity with brave faces but rarely any heart.

Mr. Khan should act and be in life the hero he portrains on screen. His engagment in the problem could do amazing things. But, like most victims he seems to be running away and not turning and fighting.

I spent 3 years in solitary confinement being beaten and intimidated. The Nazi’s relied on Name, Color and Religion to decide who had a right to live and who did not. As a Jew I am sensitive to anything that determines a person’s character by virture of his name, color or religion. My father and grandparents survived the holocaust. Defending against terrorism should rely on good intgelligence, not on xenophobia.

I prayed all the time for some real live heros to emerge the the heroes and heroins of the big screen. So far no one.
